Lately we have gotten to that time of year where we are kind of stuck inside and the boys are getting bored with everything and fighting!
Last Saturday Lars got up and went skiing by himself...I had encouraged him to because I'd been gone 3 other nights during the week (for meetings, a haircut etc.) and was going to be gone again Saturday night scrapbooking. Anyway Ashton and Gunnar pretty much started fighting first thing and kept on all morning. It is exhausting sometimes and really drives me crazy! I know all kids do it, but wow I wish they wouldn't! Eventually I talked them into getting their snow clothes on and going out to play. Luckily they had fun doing that for quite awhile and were mostly getting along. Then after awhile they came in and wanted hot chocolate, so I made them some and as they sat drinking it and joking around, Gunnar all of a sudden looked at his mug and said
"Mom! Look...a heart! And it did it all on it's own!
So I of course grabbed my camera and snapped some pictures. And couldn't help but think that that was another of God's many ways of talking to me. His sign that it's all okay. I feel like He talks to me all the time and this is just what I needed to see that day :) Especially a few days before Valentine's Day.
And in the whole scheme of things...the fighting is so small. I know that they love each other and they have so many great moments together...they just seem cooped up lately and that always brings more fights!
Another day last week I had to help out with some stuff at the school (some weeks I feel like I live there :) and afterward I knew that I had to go get groceries. I had already put it off as long as I could, but we were out of everything. I knew I had to talk Gunnar into going also (I think he dislikes it almost as much as me these days)! And I knew that if we went home and had lunch first, we'd never get there. So I asked him if he wanted to go get a crepe...and of course he said yes. It was a super snowy day and fun to go get a treat with my little sidekick before we had to endure grocery shopping.
And I love the Crepery!
Then yesterday we did Breakfast with a Buddy at the school. Lars and I went with the boys and they got to pick out a free book and have a donut and sit and read with us. It was fun...I sure love their school :)
Speaking of their school, I have to brag again about parent teacher conferences. We had them last week and they did so well again! It really is so great to go in and sit down and have their teachers go on and on about how smart and great they are. Makes me feel so good as a Mom. Ashton of course still has his moments of being distracting in the class etc. But he is such a good student and is excelling in all subjects. And Gunnar is following along in those footsteps. He is off the charts in all of his subjects and is amazing us with how well he's reading. He kind of skipped right over having to sound anything out...he can just read! And I love to listen to him and see how proud he gets. He was cute all through his conference...you could just see him beaming when his cute teacher Mrs. Coburn (and the teacher who has been filling in for her...Miss Dimick) just went on and on about how great he is!
Yep...I'm proud :)
Oh and I'm also proud to say that I got all caught up on my scrapbooking again!
Let's see...what else? Oh we've been counting down the days and now we're down to 6 till Lars and I go to Mexico!!! It is coming up so fast and no we don't feel ready. February has been crazy so far and there are still things we need to have done before we go. Kelli is coming to stay with them and they are so excited. I know that they are fine here with her, so that makes me feel better about leaving. Anyway we're trying to get their science fair project done before we go, I have my Box Tops contest going on now and the list goes on and on.
But we're excited! We've been wanting to go somewhere warm to escape the Utah winter for a few years now, and this year it has just seemed like the right time to do it. So I got my passport a few weeks ago and now we just need to pack!
