I've said it before, but this is one of my very favorite weeks of the summer...really of the year! I love going to Vacation Bible School every year with the boys. This year and last year I got to do VBS Spotlight, or in other words be the photographer and make fun slideshows of the kids each day. The theme this year was "Sky"...so airplanes and clouds etc...
After sleeping in most of the summer, we had to be up and out of the house by 7:40 am on Monday to get out to the church by 8:00! We did it, but it was not easy. The rest of the days we had to be there by 8:30 and it went from 9 to noon each day.
Gunnar was nervous for just a minute on the first day, but then he went right into the preschool room with Amalia and did great.
He LOVED everything about it this year!
He LOVED everything about it this year!
But especially the songs and the music...it was so so cute to see him doing all the moves and singing the songs and getting so excited about it every day.
Ashton always loves it too, but this year he said his favorite part was the Wild Bible Adventures.
Every year we also raise money for a special cause and this year we got to donate money to go towards buying mosquito nets for families in Mali, Africa to protect them against Malaria. The boys learned more about this cause each day and how so many kids die from being bit by mosquitos because they don't have the nets to protect them. I loved that they got to learn about this and got a chance to help save kids lives. Each day we brought money to put in the can and they would talk a lot about it when we got home. All together we ended up raising $240...we doubled our goal of $120!
We always get a cd of all of the songs and they listened to it nonstop all week, and have it memorized. We'd turn it on in the car and they'd sing it as loud as they could.
Besides all of the fun, I just love to hear them talking about God...they always do, but a little more than usual this week.
On the way there one of the days, they were fighting in the car and Ashton dared Gunnar to open the car door, so he pulled the handle and cracked it a little right before we pulled in the parking lot. So as I told him that it's not safe to do that, and Ashton told him he was just kidding, Gunnar said "Don't worry Ashton you just have to Trust in God." haha...that was the whole theme of it this year.
Then one day in the afternoon after we got home, the little neighbor girl Addy was over and she was wanting Ashton to help her do something with a toy and he told her "Just pray to God for strength and you'll get it." Then I see him go over next to her and kneel down and fold his hands to show her how to pray and said "Dear God please give Addy strength so I won't have to help her." haha...little stinker! At least he was praying...
I think we were all sad that Friday was the last day...such a fun week spent with great people from our church. Can't wait till next year!
