Lava Hot Springs...

We decided that since Lars had this whole last week off, we would go spend a night up at Lava Hot Springs. I've never been there and Lars hasn't been for years. I can't believe I've never been there when it's only less than an hour and a half away. It was a fun little getaway! We left on Tuesday afternoon about 1:00 and were there and in our room by a little after 2:30. We stayed at this cute little place called the Alpaca Inn. Luckily our friends Aurora and Gio told us about it, or we'd never have known to stay there. They'd been to Lava a couple weeks ago and actually stayed somewhere else, but walked over to the Alpaca and checked it out and said they wished they'd stayed there.
It had recently been completely remodeled and it really was nice...
As we were checking in we saw all of these homemade hats, scarves and mittens and Lars kind of jokingly said..."hey maybe they're made out of Alpaca fur." So the lady who was checking us in (and also was the owner), said "yeah they are actually...we also raise Alpacas" and that's why they named their place the Alpaca Inn. So it was all decorated with pictures of Alpacas and the magazines in the room were about Alpacas. Kind of interesting. So after we let the boys relax for a little bit in the room, we got our swimming stuff on and headed the block and a half over to the hot pools.
This is definitely the time of year to visit this place...it felt SO good to get into the HOT water after walking from the locker room in 20 degree weather. They have 4 pools I think...all a little bit different temperatures. We actually sat in the one that was the least hot and it was plenty hot. I kind of wanted to try out the others, but they would have been way too hot for the boys...(Lars included!) Anyway the boys (Lars included) loved it.
Ashton (like me) loves his water hot... ...and Gunnar just sat on my lap and enjoyed it the whole time too. We stayed for about 2 hours, then decided we should get out and go get ready for dinner. After we got back to our room and changed, we went to this yummy pizza place.
Then it was back to the room again to relax and watch UP, then go to bed. Gunnar was exhausted, so he actually laid in my bed with me for most of the movie, then just fell asleep there. We set up the playpen, but never even moved him into it. Kind of fun for me since he never sleeps with us at home. Ashton slept with Lars and was so tired I don't think he hardly moved either.
Wednesday morning we got up and went to breakfast here...
It was also really good. Then we drove around the tiny town for a few minutes, then went back and hung out at our room for a couple hours, then packed up and headed home. It had snowed a couple inches overnight and kept snowing the first 45 minutes or so of our drive, but we made it home in just a little over an hour and a half again. I'm so glad we finally went there and I think we might have to make it a yearly tradition over Christmas break!
(Oh and I'm SO thankful that our stomach flu waited to hit us till we were back home!)

I've never heard of that hotel, but it sounds nice! If you go in the summer, you could try out the waterslides or float the river. It's a pretty fun place actually. And -it's only about 1 1/2 hours to us! Can't believe you were so close!
