First Camp Out of the summer!

The weekend before last we went camping with Lars' family and a bunch of other people at Old Folks Flats in Huntington canyon.
It was a great campground with a huge group spot that we camped in. We were lucky and Nana, Papa, Aunt Shelley and Uncle Mat took care of all of the food! Wow what a difference when you don't have to worry about that...we just chipped in our share, so nice! Thanks you guys :)
Anyway we had a good time...we got up there Friday afternoon and camped that night and Saturday night. Saturday morning we got up and went for a fun hike over to the ranger station. It was 1 mile each way. The boys did great. Lars had to carry Gunnar on the way back, but he hiked the whole first mile stopping to collect lots of sticks for the fire :).
Ashton and I hiked back together and he talked non-stop as usual...he is so funny, at one point he told me he was SO tired and was just getting too old for stuff like this :)
Lars and I also got to go fish the river for a little while both days, while the boys stayed at camp and played with Hunter.
We caugth lots of little fish, and at one point on the second day a huge beaver swam right by my leg as I was standing in the water! It was fun to get out and fish!

Saturday night we had a big pot-luck Father's Day dinner and even more people came up to eat. Then we had a horse-shoe tournament, that Hunter and his partner ended up winning :)
Half of the fun of camping is the fire...the boys can't stay out of it!
Oh and of coures S'Mores :)
At dinner Saturday I noticed the hamburger Ashton was eating was pretty red inside, but he ended up finishing it mostly. Well at 1:30 in the morning I woke up to Lars yelling..."Ashton just threw up in his sleeping bag!" Poor kid...then he went on to throw up 6 or 7 more times out the tent door. I felt so bad for him it made me cry...he just kept moaning and saying his stomach hurt SO bad           :( Then he finally said he had to go to the bathroom and after that he said he was fine and went right back to sleep for the rest of the night. What a night! We figure it must have been food poisoning to go through him that quick and none of the rest of us ever got sick. Not fun to have a sick kid while camping!
All cozy before bed...
Sunday was Father's Day...we got up and ate breakfast, then got all packed up to head to Price. The boys started their soccer camp there the next day....

Summer fun...

Just a few things we've been doing so far this summer...
They begged to do a Kool-Aid stand I think the first day school was out, but I made them wait till the next week. So we made our sign, then baked cookies and made Kook-Aid and they were set up and ready to go. It was a hot day! And they lasted about 10 minutes before they decided they were done and didn't want to do it anymore.
Oh well, they came back to it later and made almost $10! and now that we have our sign, I think we'll set it up again another day when they are begging for something to do...
Another day we made these...
"snake bubble blowers"
They were super easy and they had fun with them for awhile...
We do movie Wednesdays at Cinefour with the Hansons...so far we've only seen Rio, we missed last week and this week is Hop. We go at noon and that first day we went to a park afterwards and let all the boys play for awhile. That particular park has a lot of DIRT! And I think most of it ended up on Ashton & Gunnar's bodies :)
I was laughing so hard when Gunnar came running down the hill in a cloud of dirt...haha.
Ashton had just as much on him.
They were having lots of fun playing and pretending :)
We are doing our ABC summer again this year...here is our poster, most of it is filled out now and we have some fun things planned!

Spelling Bee winner!

A couple weeks before school got out, Ashton came home and told me that he had to choose if he wanted to be in the class spelling bee or vocabulary bee and that he had chosen the spelling bee. It was going to be the next day and he had a huge list of possible words to go over. So he and I layed in his bed that night and went through half of the list (he whined through the whole thing, but got almost every word correct), then after breakfast the next morning we finished going through the rest of the list (with lots more whining).

Anyway he went to school and I kind of forgot all about it until when I was picking him up from school, a Mom of a girl in his class came up to me and said "Hey I heard Ashton won the spelling bee!" I was so excited for him! When I asked him about it, he got a big smile on his face and I could tell he was so happy he won :) Oh and when I asked him what he won, he said..."Just a happy feeling for winning." Love it!

I don't have any pictures from that day...shocking I know, but wanted to make sure I posted about it. So proud of you Ashton! See how hard work pays off?

Getting Brave...

I took these pictures about a week after Gunnar got his training wheels off. It is amazing to me how fast kids learn and how quickly they have no fear!!
Look Mom...one hand!
Oh and I can put my feet up on the bar!
Little stinker :)
It's been so fun to watch him on his little bike...so cute!

Ran my first 5K!

On June 3, I ran my first ever 5K! I have never been much of a runner, but in the past year I have started to run some. Not a lot and never very far, but I have actually started to somewhat enjoy it. It really surprised me. Anyway the night before the little race (here in Providence) my friend Dominee called me and asked me to do it with her, so I figured why not? I think I have only ever ran 3 miles once or twice, but figured I could always walk part of it if I needed to.
Anyway we got there bright and early around 7:00 to register and the race started at 8:00.
We ended up running the whole thing and were pretty proud of ourselves...and we didn't quite come in last, haha :)
We did it in 33 minutes and 50 seconds I think.
It was fun!
Now I just need to get more consistent about running...if only I was a morning person, then I would do it first thing in the morning before Lars goes to work.
But I'm glad I can say I did it!

First outing on the boat this year...

On Memorial Day we decided to take the boat out for the first time this year. It ended up being a little bit rainy and chilly, but not too bad once we got out there. We went to Treasureton and just stayed for a couple hours. Ashton and Gunnar enjoy it for a bit, but get pretty bored if we're not catching any fish. We (I) only caught 2 the whole time. Oh well, it was a fun little outing for the day.

Visit from Grandma & Grandpa in Texas...

A few days before Memorial Weekend Grandpa and Grandma from Texas came to visit and stayed at our house for a night on their way to Wyoming. They did a 2 week road trip and first drove to Montana, then made their way to Utah, then Wyoming, then gradually back home to Texas with a few more stops.
Anyway the boys loved having them here those couple of days and especially loved that they brought their little dog Paisley with them. They really thought it was the greatest thing ever...they couldn't get enough of her!
We went out to Firehouse the night they arrived, then hung out for awhile in the morning till it was time for them to leave.
Then we all drove up to Wyoming later that afternoon and stayed a couple nights there.
It was freezing cold and windy the entire time! So there wasn't a whole lot to get out and do, but it's still always nice to go home.
On Sunday we had a little casual Memorial for my Grandpa out on the back patio.
He died 3 years ago and my uncle actually received his ashes back from the University of Utah about 18 months ago, but this was the first time that everyone could get together to do something and get ready to bury his ashes.
After that, we decided to head home.
Fun to see you guys!

Last day of 1st grade for Ashton!

Ashton had his last day of school on June 1st. Wow...where did that year go?? It really went by so fast! He had another great year and another teacher that we adored. In fact the couple of nights before school ended Ashton broke down and cried as I was putting him to bed at the thought of never getting to see Mrs. Rawlins again. It broke my heart for him. I think we forget how attached our kids get to their teachers who they spend 6 hours a day with. He absolutely loved her and it was so sad to see him get so emotional about it. He is usually not like that!
Anyway she is moving to another school next year to teach 2nd grade, so I think it would be easier if he knew he could still see her around school next year :( But I told him we could take her to lunch this summer and go see her next year.
We will miss you Mrs. Rawlins!
Ashton was mad at me for coming in and making him get his picture taken that day, but I know some day he'll be glad.
These pictures were from that morning of the last day...
Taken by Gunnar :)...
We got ready in time for Ashton to ride his bike, and Gunnar and I walked with him.
So glad it was a fun year for him and just can't believe he will already be in 2nd grade next year!
