Thursday in NY...Staten Island Ferry, 9~11 Memorial & my waffle truck!

On Thursday Lars just had to go to the show for half a day, but not until we went and ate some of these...
YUM!
 Best crepes ever.
Then he had to take off when we got back and I got ready for the day then met up with Stacy for a couple hours. We walked around the diamond district that was not far from our hotel. Another interesting place.
Then we happened upon this place with all of the wax models.
We didn't pay to go inside and wander around, but did get pictures with these two.
 Kind of funny :)
We also walked into this restaurant to look at the menu for fun...
When Lars and Nephi got done, we went our separate ways. Lars and I got another jamba, then got on the subway going down towards the Staten Island Ferry while they went to a baseball game.
We took that across to Staten Island and saw the Statue of Liberty on the way. It was cool to see since it is one of the main things you think of when you think NY...
Our plan when we got over to Staten Island was to find a good little pizza place. And we did...
We got chatting with the owner who happened to be exactly what I would have pictured for a NY pizza guy, so had to get a picture :)
Super nice guy!
After lunch, we made our way back to the ferry & took a couple pictures of the skyline...
Then got on the ferry and rode it back over, then walked around for awhile and found this bull that I just know from seeing it in Hitch, we had to get a few pictures :)
Then we found the 9~11 Memorial.
There was no line, so we decided to go walk around it. It was really neat to see, but so sad to walk around and imagine what had happened right where we were standing back on that terrible day in 2001.
The new towers, still under construction...
The survivor tree...the one tree that survived, they were able to replant it...
There are two of these huge pools with all of the names of the people who lost their lives that day inscribed all along the edges...
After we got done there, we found another subway entrance and rode back up to our hotel.
Nephi and Stacy wanted to try to win some Wicked tickets, so we went and put our names in with them to better their chances, but none of us won.
So we went to dinner at a little Mediterranean place. Also really good food.
I really wanted to try to go to another show that night. I wanted to see Rock of Ages and we checked into getting tickets, but in the end decided we didn't want to pay $100 each, so instead we chased down my Waffle truck!
In fact I purposely hardly ate any dinner so I could save room for my waffle. Actually spelled "Wafel". :)
I had to look on twitter and see where the trucks were parked that day, then we got our map out and figured out which one was closest. We still had to ride the subway quite aways, but it was a fun adventure to find the truck. And it was worth it! It was so good! We tried both different kinds of wafels with different toppings :)
Fun for our last night there...
I loved the story about the guy who started it too. He had been a big IBM executive making a 6 figure salary and decided he was done with that life and decided to just quit and open up a wafel truck and it has become really successful! (Dinges means toppings :)...
We got back to the room pretty late, so we just went to bed. We had to leave the hotel by 9:30 the next morning to get to the airport to make our flight in time...
