I want to blog about our wonderful trip to Mexico while the memories are fresh in my mind. It might take a few posts and will include lots of pictures :)
We planned our trip about 5 weeks before we went, so I hurried and applied for my passport (Lars already had his) and luckily it came within 2 weeks or so. Lars had made me a gift certificate that he gave me for Christmas that was for a "Vacation somewhere warm". Not knowing this, Kelli actually made up a gift certificate for us for one week of babysitting the boys while we went on vacation. So it worked out well! She has a schedule at her job where she works 7 days, then has 7 off so we just planned it around her days off. We left on Wednesday, February 19th and got home late on Tuesday the 25th...the day before our 14th anniversary.
And I just have to say that it was so, so fun! We absolutely loved it. We loved the resort we stayed at...the Sandos Caracol Eco Resort in Playa Del Carmen and it was just so nice to get away together and have a break from everyday life!
Getting ready to head out...
It was freezing waiting for the shuttle to take us to the airport!
But I told Lars it would just make us appreciate the warm weather even more once we got there.
We had to wait awhile sitting on the plane while they de-iced the wings. It was a rainy blizzard at that point...
We had to fly to Houston, then after a 2 hour layover we flew into Cancun and then a shuttle took us the hour drive to Playa. We got in pretty late that night, so after we went to our room, we just got ready for bed. Then the next morning we got up and went and had breakfast at one of the little restaurants, then wandered around and learned our way around the resort. It was beautiful...all surrounded in trees in the jungle and of course the beach not far from our room. We loved our room too...it was really nice and had a Jacuzzi tub right in the middle of it. And we also loved that it was really quiet!
We had these cute towel animals waiting for us each day too...
Some pictures from our first day wandering around...
These little Coati animals as well as lots of other animals could be seen wandering all over the resort...
One of the pools...All of the guys in white shirts were chefs and they were delivering food to people in the pools...
The beautiful beach...and me with a yummy non-alcoholic drink we got a few times. It was called the Chichen Itza.
The pool in our adults only section...this guy was teaching a Zumba class...fun to watch!
Of course everywhere we went and everything we did we thought of the boys and missed them and said how much they would love it all. Especially this aqua park!
And the kids club, tons of activities for kids...
Yummy spicy chicken tacos being cooked down by the pool that day...
It felt so good just to relax by the pool...
And Lars loved cooling off in it. It was about 85 degrees there the whole week!
After dinner that first night, they had a Mayan Ritual show by the Cenote that's in the middle of the resort. It was kind of cool to watch...
We tried to not text much while we were there, so I would check in with Kelli on Facebook a couple times a day to see how everything was going with the boys. She is so great to just come in and pick up where I leave off and the boys love her. We are so lucky!
Anyway that was our first couple days. Up next our most adventurous day!
